I recently had two free days in Chile to go fly fishing in the Puerto Natales area. I got hooked up with a great guide, Ben Vial. Since I was there without my own gear Ben supplied everything I needed; waders, rod, reel & flies. He even provided an elegant lunch with beef, salad, fruit, Chilean wines and beer elegantly presented on tablecloth covered table. Ben thought of everything. Ben picked me up at my hotel and took me across the steppe to a remote stretch of the Vizcachas river on a private ranch. There were no other anglers in sight. Ben can find the fish and is good about moving to different areas. He’s a patient guide and is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge. I learned some new techniques especially how to cast in the Patagonia winds. It was a memorable two days fishing catching big brown trout plus Ben is fun to hang out with. If you’re going to Puerto Natales check out Patagonia Line.
